This late Winter Gathering is designed for participants to learn and experience the beauty of small game hunting in the snowy forests of Northern Michigan.

You will have the chance to learn basic tracking, how to coordinate efforts in small parties, proper firearm safety and use, how to clean and cook wild game, as well as any relevant lessons from our Fieldcraft 101.

We will arrive at camp Friday evening where we will construct minimalist shelters for the night. Saturday will be a full day of instruction, training, and of course hunting. We will break camp and depart late Sunday morning.

To be eligible to attend participants must:

Supply own firearm and ammunition (22 lr, 410, or 20 ga).
Possess a valid MI hunting license
Be physically able to hike off-trail for prolonged periods
Attend Hunter Safety/First Aid course at 4 PM day of event

A minimum donation of $30 is suggested. All proceeds go directly towards our non-profit organization the Uncivilized Living Foundation whose mission is “To provide underserved and other populations in need with the unique benefits of outdoor experiences and life lessons from living in Nature”

UV Meeting – March

Every month members of our community come together to learn and practice specific lessons taken from the Uncivilized Vitality lifestyle program of Health & Happiness Optimization. The cost is free for first time attendees and only $24 for repeat visitors. Registration includes any and all take home projects and materials. Membership options available. If you are unable to attend in person you may join in via zoom. Link available upon request.

Orienteering Camp

Mar 11 @ 4:00 pm – Mar 13 @ 2:00 pm

Dr. Jon D. Morey will oversee a course designed to test one’s ability to learn and execute proper orienteering skills using a map and compass to navigate from point-to-point over natural terrain in Northern Michigan. No experience necessary but the ability to hike 10-15 miles off trail is encouraged. We will set up minimalist shelters Friday night and begin our excursion first thing Saturday morning. Over the course of the day, our group (accompanied by trained leadership), will attempt to meet with Dr. Morey at a series of checkpoints, ending at a final camp location where participants will once again get experience constructing quick, yet minimal shelters. Saturday’s communal meal will be provided.

Fieldcraft 101

This event is designed to introduce participants to both the outdoors and the Uncivilized Vitality program in a fun and comfortable manner.

Led by Dr. Jon D. Morey, participants will explore the basics of Fieldcraft including shelter making, fire building, primitive food preparation, and many others.

Through these experiences one will begin to develop the Lost Abilities: capability, adaptability, and durability. These abilities are the cornerstone of Uncivilized Vitality and enable one to more fully benefit from the Health & Happiness Optimization lifestyle.We will arrive at camp Friday evening and depart Sunday morning. More information including a packing list will be provided closer to the event once registration is complete.

For those looking to take their Fieldcraft skills to the next level, this is the event for you.

Having built upon the lessons of the Uncivilized Vitality and developed the Lost Abilities of Capability, Adaptability, and Durability, one can expect to be pushed in this challenging yet rewarding outdoor experience. Dr. Jon D. Morey will lead a small group on a 3 day/2 night events with minimal gear (Pockets & Pouch) in order to teach participants how to not just survive but potentially thrive in an emergency situation. On the Convenience scale, this event qualifies as a Level 1.
